Timber trade heritage
Richard Russell is a well established family business dealing with all aspects of panel products, from import to wholesale, to end user specifier.
Our routes in the building trade date back to 1928 when we were primarily involved in timber importing. In June 1952 Richard Russell was founded. The company was based out of a small stable block in South Croydon, Surrey. Facilities were relatively basic but the main emphasis was still on timber as opposed to sheet materials today.
In 1980 the company was taken over by the current Family Management Team and over the coming years the company expanded rapidly into new customer markets by diversifying into a completely different stock range of Specialist Panel Products. In 1984 the company moved to much larger premises in Beddington Lane, Croydon in South London, furthermore taking on a large storage facility in Tilbury Docks facilitating easy access to all our stocks being imported from all around the globe.
Throughout the 1990’s the company continued to trade successfully and by 1997 we were welcoming our third generation into the family business. New ideas coupled with big investments into new stock lines, premises, machinery and vehicles saw new appointments at the company with our team of staff ever expanding. In January 2000 we moved to a new site nearby, taking on two additional warehouses in the modern “Beddington Trading Park”. The warehouse facility quadrupled our storage capacity to bring in further stock lines and extra volumes of existing stocks, all the time benefiting our customers from being able to bring more competitive pricing to the market.

In 2009 we made a multi-million pound investment acquiring a brand new site next door to what was our previous Head Office. Now currently our Head Office and Main Warehouse, we now have a larger facility than ever and are utilising this to ever build our stock portfolio and re-invest in all areas of our business.
Despite numerous recessions and downturns over the years, the Richard Russell Group remains extremely strong and our management team are committed to responsibly growing our business for the benefit of our customers, suppliers and colleagues.
